One of the most distinguishing features of intelligent life is the ability to learn.  A rock cannot learn, so it is not considered very intelligent.  A dog has a great capacity to learn than a goldfish, so is considered more intelligent.  Learning is at the center of intelligent life, a defining feature.
Learning is inseparably interconnected with power.  Man has power over even the fiercest of beasts because of his greater capacity to learn, which gives him power to create and act.  Just as a creature with a greater ability to learn has power over another, so does a society with a greater ability to learn have power over another.  This is a truth that is apparent upon a review of the last millennium of history.  Whether studying the Renaissance, American Revolution, or World Wars, it is clear that learning, freedom, action, and power are inseparable.
Clearly stated, learning is the active process of acquiring information, knowledge, and understanding that results in increased freedom and power to act.  A person may learn by study, experience, and faith; whatever the method, learning should be accompanied by the confirming power of the Holy Ghost.  Jesus Christ set the perfect example of the process and outcome of learning.
I will provide several artifacts that illustrate the process and purpose of learning.  These artifacts would provide a good beginning for a new society to learn how and why to learn.
